534 W. McDowell, Phoenix, AZ

Most people associate My Florist Cafe with the huge sign atop the roof of the building on 7th Ave. & McDowell. For 49 years from 1947 to 1996, this building housed a florist that went by the name of “My Florist” and it sported this huge neon sign high above the building.

#170, Tres Amigos Mexican Imports

3933 N Brown Ave., Scottsdale, AZ 85251

Snowbirds, Spring Training fans, Midwesterners can be found buying everything from ponchos, knick knacks, margarita mix and specialty salsas.

The building is historic, constructed in 1923 for silent movies and billiards.

I never realized how popular these stores are until I moved to Scottsdale. They come in large crowds on Saturday and Sunday mornings to buy turquoise, boots and other authentic southwestern cowboy treats. Godd bless them.

3660 Grand Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85019

Mr. Lucky’s closed in 2004, but in its hey day, it was the honkey tonk bar of the West Side. The bar opened in 1966 and was the place to drink, dance and meet people. It was a real cowboy bar. On Friday and Saturday nights, there was bull riding. Those not quite 21 could be found after hours for line dancing.

I am sure I know a few people who have fond memories of this bar from the late 1990’s!
